SOME NOTES ON THE DATE

The booklet "A Tryal of Witches" erroneously dates the trial to March 1664 both on the front cover and  in the introduction which says that it took place in the "Sixteenth year of the Reigne of our Sovereign Lord King Charles II.  This date is incorrect for the original indictments in the Public Record Office (ASSI/16/4/1) and other contemporary sources indicate clearly that it took place in the 14th year of the reign of Charles II.  Charles's regnal year is reckoned as beginning on January 30th and the 14th year is calculated as running from January 30th 1662 to January 29th 1663.
